PE Uniform Policy

The following are the PE Department's rules pertaining to PE Uniforms:

-Every student MUST change for PE.  -Students are NOT allowed to wear the same clothes they came to school in to PE (with the exception of a Hopkins issued sweatshirt). They must dress out entirely of their "streetwear" for PE.  This includes leggings under shorts (Hopkins only are allowed) or long sleeves under PE shirts.  

-The PE Department sells Hopkins Jr. High issued PE uniforms all year long.  However, if you opt out of purchasing our uniforms, colors for both shorts and shirts must match your grade level clothes.

7th Grade : Black Shorts and a Forest Green Shirt

8th Grade : Black Shorts and Gray Shirt

-Names must be put on both the shirt & shorts in permanent marker.

-In the winter months, sweats may be worn with a few exceptions:

     1.  No sweat pants with pockets.

     2.  No zippers (example: no cardigans or zip up jackets)

     3.  Sweatshirts & sweatpants must be black, dark green, gray only.

Locker Room Policy & Referral Procedures

Every student is issued a locker for the school year.  The PE Department at Hopkins takes every precaution to prevent the loss of clothing or valuables, however we are not responsible for lost or stolen items.  

The following are specific rules/policy procedures for the locker rooms:

- Do not share locker combinations.

- Only use your assigned locker—Do not switch or share your locker with another student.-. All valuables or expensive/important items should not be brought to the locker room.

- No food or drink (except water) are allowed into the locker room or gym.

-. No glass containers are allowed in the locker room or gym.

- Due to a high number of students with sensitive allergies, body sprays are never permitted to be used inside the locker rooms.  You may only use body sprays outside  An hour detention will be given to those students violating this rule. 

- Backpacks are to be placed under the benches to keep the walkways clear.  - Use of cellular phones is prohibited in the locker room for any reason.  An immediate hour detention may be written and an automatic referral to administration is issued when in violation of this rule.Phone will be confiscated and taken directly to the office.

 *The PE Department has taken a PROACTIVE stance when it comes to lost belongings in the locker rooms.  It should be stressed that students need to take responsibility for their own possessions.  This list of procedures/policies helps with incidents of theft, keeping our students safe, and ensuring everyone's comfort.

The Hopkins Physical Education staff is committed to the Physical Education Model Content Standards for California Public Schools.

The Physical Education Model Content Standards for California Public Schools affirms the standing of physical education as an academic content area. The standards highlight the fact that participation in physical activity is not the same as learning the content in physical education. Every grade- and course-level standard should be taught and assessed for student learning. With adequate instruction and sustained effort, every student should be able to achieve the standards; however, some students with special needs may require appropriate accommodations, adaptations, or modifications to meet the standards. Decisions about how students achieve mastery of the model content standards are best left to teachers, schools, and local educational agencies.

The five overarching model content standards for elementary and middle school students are as follows:

Overarching Standard 1: Students demonstrate the motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities.

Overarching Standard 2: Students demonstrate knowledge of movement concepts, principles, and strategies that apply to the learning and performance of physical activities.

Overarching Standard 3: Students assess and maintain a level of physical fitness to improve health and performance.

Overarching Standard 4: Students demonstrate knowledge of physical fitness concepts, principles, and strategies to improve health and performance.

Overarching Standard 5: Students demonstrate and utilize knowledge of psychological and sociological concepts, principles, and strategies that apply to the learning and performance of physical activity.
